Honey Womb — Community Doula Engagement Framework

At Honey Womb, we recognize the vital importance of collaboration between families, OBGYNs, physicians, midwives, indigenous and non-indigenous communities and doulas. We believe that by working together, we can provide families with a holistic, well-rounded approach to birth care. This includes cultural safety training for childbirth.

Who We Are

At Honey Womb, we honor the vital role of collaboration—among families, midwives, family doctors, Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, and doulas. Together, we nurture a holistic, culturally safe, and deeply supportive approach to birth care.

Why We’re Here

As expectant parents step into the world of birth care, the journey can feel overwhelming, fragmented, and uncharted. On Vancouver Island, where natural beauty and community spirit shape our lives, many families long for something deeper—connection, empowerment, and guidance that honors their unique needs.

At Honey Womb, we see you. We understand the uncertainty, anxiety, and vulnerability this journey can bring. Our work offers a way forward rooted in connection, understanding, and holistic support.

What We Know

Birth is more than delivering a baby—it is a transformative process. Families want experiences that reconnect them with their bodies, intuition, power, and community. They want nurturing, empowering care grounded in personal connection. This is the space we create.

Our Core Principles

Heart-Centered, Embodied Care: We blend affirmations, breathwork, massage and nervous system connection, and other tools to guide parents toward confident, embodied knowing.

Doulas as Partners We walk alongside families—not as service providers, but as collaborators in their journey, offering education, emotional support, and empowerment.

Support Across the Journey: From prenatal through postpartum, we provide guidance and resources that help families navigate choice, change, and transformation.

When We Show Up

We step in as families become active co-creators of their birth experience. Whether navigating the healthcare system, making decisions under pressure, or embracing the unknown, we offer grounding, guidance, and unwavering support. Together, we co-create a birth experience aligned with the family’s values, desires, and cultural context.

How We Engage With Our Community

Honey Womb complements, rather than replaces, medical care. Our engagement with clinics, midwives, and community partners includes:

  • Workshops & Circles: Co-hosted educational sessions for parents.

  • Referral Partnerships: Seamless, two-way pathways between doulas and medical providers.

  • Shared Advocacy: Standing alongside providers to uphold culturally safe, family-centered, and trauma-informed care.

  • Resource & Feedback Exchange: Collaborating on tools, handouts, and continuous improvement conversations.

Transformation

Birth and postpartum are deeply transformative. With support, families emerge more grounded, resilient, and connected—to themselves, their children, and their community. They carry this empowerment forward, sharing their wisdom and shaping a culture of trust, respect, and self-advocacy in birth care.

Acknowledging the Land

Honey Womb operates on the unceded traditional territories of the K’omoks First Nation, including Pentlatch, E’iksan, and K’omoks peoples. We honor elders past, present, and emerging, and aim to cultivate ongoing respectful relationships with Indigenous communities.

In the story of childbirth, the birthing parent is in the lead. This isn’t just one personal journey—it’s one that is shared, supported and shaped by those around you. From the very beginning, the path toward empowered birth is a collective experience, where every step, every challenge and every triumph resonates not only in your life but in the lives of those who walk beside you.

Evolving Framework

As our community and the landscape of birth care continue to evolve, so does this framework. Honey Womb is committed to adapting our practices and partnerships to meet the needs of families, care providers, and the broader community. We welcome feedback and collaboration as we grow together.
